A fews years ago I had the chance to stay at Le Corbusier’s Couvent La Tourette near Lyon in France. It turned out to be one of the most memorable building visits of my life. Although I was only able to stay for around 48 hours it was an invaluable opportunity to see how the building and its community of monks live and work together. It also showed how the 4 simple ingredients of Corb’s design: concrete, nature, space and light, work together in simple and sophisticated ways. Whether at sunrise, midday or sunset La Tourette is a place of profound and ever-shifting architectural experiences. Go there!
